The New York State burn ban is in effect beginning March 16, and runs through May 14. If you have an outdoor fire you may be ticketed by the DEC.
In 2009 the DEC placed this burn ban in effect to limit the amount of outdoor fires in the spring time when there is a high possibility of a brush fire. In the seven years since its inception the state has seen a 35% reduction in brush fires during the burn ban. For further information, please view the DEC informational page.
